Welcome to ICC
Many thanks for joining or re-joining the Irish Cycling Campaign (formerly Cyclist.ie) – Welcome!
We work to improve conditions for everyday cyclists on the island of Ireland. As you can see in this website, we are a membership based organisation with affiliated local cycling / walking campaign or advocacy groups, Greenway Groups and Bicycle Festivals. The affiliated groups are listed here; make contact with them if you wish to be more involved.
We are a member of The Irish Environmental Network and affiliated to STOP Climate Chaos Ireland and the Climate and Health Alliance. ICC is also the member for Ireland of the European Cyclists’ Federation and one of our members was a former Vice-President (Dr. Damien Ó Tuama). Damien was appointed to the board of Transport Infrastructure Ireland, so we are hoping this will bring cycling to the fore in TII’s actions. ICC works out of the An Taisce HQ and helps it to draft planning submissions dealing with roads/traffic / climate change matters. Our Patron is Prof. Donal O’Shea (the national obesity expert).
Our network has grown steadily in recent years with more and more individual members so as to strengthen the national advocacy voice.
Your contribution will help us work on behalf of everyday cycling so as to improve conditions nationwide for the 8-80 age range in order to get more commuters cycling and thus help mitigate transport greenhouse gas emissions and making our population healthier through active travel. It will support our advocacy work in making conditions better for cyclists nationally by lobbying government and politicians, by actively engaging with Government Departments (Transport primarily but also Health, Environment, Climate and Communications & Housing, Local Government and Heritage) and National Agencies (such as Road Safety Authority, National Transport Agency, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, An Garda Siochana: Roads Policing & Sport Ireland), by working with local authorities, by making detailed planning submissions, and by holding events and public information meetings.
You may keep track of what’s happening in ICC via this websit, Facebook, Linkedin and Instagram as well as reading the Dublin Cycling Campaign / ICC newsletters, which are archived here.
We have a private Intranet (‘Slack’) we use for our working and campaigning groups and to foster discussion on a range of everyday cycling issues. Please email us if you’d like to connect with and contribute to our work through that platform.
We are working on multiple campaigns at the moment but our big ones are:
- Love30: safer, lower speed limits in built-up areas (30 km/h)
- Active Travel Ireland: enhanced funding for Cycling & Walking
- #freethecyclelanes
- Ensuring that Gardai are detecting and enforcing the new dangerous overtaking of a cyclist Regulation
Our key hashtags are: #freethecyclelanes #Love30.ie #StopKillingCyclists #Allocate4Cycling #GetIrelandActiv #IBikeIVote #ShopbyBike #ClimateActionNow #GetToSchoolOnYourOwnFuel
We look forward to your input in the future and in this regard if you’d like to become involved with our campaigns please email our Executive Committee Chairperson Neasa Ni Bheilbigh
